Welcome to Samantha Chater Therapy.
If life no longer feels familiar, you’re in the right place.
I support adults in midlife who feel caught between who they were and who they are becoming. Many come to therapy feeling lost, restless or unsure of themselves as life shifts around them. I work with anxiety, loss, trauma and life changes, and also support adults with ADHD, whether formally diagnosed or beginning to recognise those traits in themselves.
Sometimes this links to earlier experiences, long-standing people-pleasing, or coping patterns that once helped but now leave them feeling drained, disconnected or stuck. This might include staying busy, keeping the peace, shutting down feelings, always putting others first, using alcohol to cope, or feeling overwhelmed by ADHD-related patterns.
However we meet, I offer a calm, understanding space where you can talk openly, breathe, and begin to feel more like yourself again.
I offer face-to-face sessions in Sale (M33), Carrington (M31) and Altrincham (WA14), along with walk-and-talk sessions across Trafford and Manchester. I also work online and by telephone.
How counselling can help
My role isn’t to judge you or tell you what to do. I’m here to help you slow things down, make sense of what’s going on underneath, and understand why you respond the way you do. Together, we can begin to untangle old patterns, quieten self-doubt, and explore what you need now, rather than what has been expected of you.
Therapy gives you space to talk things through, understand your feelings more clearly, reconnect with who you are, and start making choices that feel more in keeping with your life today. Where helpful, hypnotherapy is also available to support anxiety, confidence, overwhelm, ADHD-related challenges, or long-standing habits.
If you’re carrying the impact of difficult childhood experiences or trauma, we can gently explore how those early experiences may have shaped the ways you learnt to cope, protect yourself, or keep the peace. Healing does not have to mean reliving everything. It can be about making sense of your story, easing old emotional wounds, and finding a steadier, kinder way forward.
Over time, many clients find they feel lighter, clearer, and more grounded. They often notice they are not second-guessing themselves as much, feel more able to speak up, set boundaries, and make decisions that feel right for them. Some say they feel more like themselves again.
You don’t have to keep managing all of this on your own. Change can begin with having a safe place to talk, and you’re welcome to start in your own time.
What counselling can help with
Anxiety & Overthinking
When your mind will not switch off and the worry keeps circling, we can look at what is driving it and help you find more space to breathe
Loss of Self & Life Changes
Whether it’s menopause, children growing up, becoming a carer, or reaching a point where life feels unfamiliar, we’ll explore what matters to you now and help you rediscover your sense of direction.
Bereavement & Loss
When someone or something important has gone, the world can feel empty and unfamiliar. I offer a safe, steady space where you can grieve in your own way, without needing to “be strong” for everyone else.
ADHD
Whether you are formally diagnosed or beginning to recognise those traits in yourself, therapy can help you make sense of overwhelm, self-criticism, emotional ups and downs, and the feeling that life can be harder to manage than it seems to be for others.
Trauma & Inner Child Healing
When old wounds still shape how you feel today. Together, we’ll gently explore where those feelings come from, begin to heal what you’ve been carrying for too long, and help you feel safer and more at ease within yourself.
Relationship Issues
When communication breaks down, boundaries blur, or you keep repeating patterns that leave you feeling unseen or disconnected. We’ll look at what’s really going on underneath and help you build healthier, more balanced ways of relating with others and with yourself.
Low Self-Worth & People Pleasing
Always putting yourself last, feeling invisible, or never quite “good enough.” We’ll work on helping you feel more grounded, valued, and able to set boundaries without guilt.
Other areas I can support with:
Low mood, confidence, self-esteem, sleep issues, perfectionism, self-doubt, fears and phobias, habits, stress, general overwhelm, and day-to-day challenges that feel too heavy to carry alone.
Counselling
A space to slow down, reflect and explore what’s going on beneath the surface, at your pace.
Hypnotherapy
Support for specific issues like fears, phobias, and habits, or to explore unconscious patterns that are keeping you stuck
Fees
Counselling – from £55
Hypnotherapy – from £90
Sessions last 50 minutes
